Changing official residency
European citizens
The following information about how to change official residency is for citizens from European countries who either already have official residency in another location in Italy or in another country.
These citizens must come to a registry office (Ufficio Anagrafe) with their passport, ID card from their home country or Italian ID card and a series of other documents depending on whether the person in question is working, studying etc.

Once the procedure is complete, citizens receive an ID card. This ID card is not valid for foreign travel.
Citizens from outside the European Union
The following information about how to change official residency is for foreign citizens from outside the EU who either already have official residency in another part of Italy or in another country.
These citizens must come to a registry office (Ufficio Anagrafe) with their passport, or equivalent document, their entry visa for Italy (sometimes requested) and their permit to stay in Italy.
